Kids to Kids, a flagship program of Spread the Word Nevada, Inc., a nonprofit, 501(c) (3) corporation, serves underprivileged children and helps them create home library collections of books to read and share with family members. While developing a love of reading, these libraries promote future academic achievement and self-confidence, which impacts lifelong success. Other literacy programs include Breakfast with Books and Books and Buddies. Since 2001, Spread the Word Nevada has distributed more than 1.4 million gently used and new books to approximately 166,000 disadvantaged youth in Southern Nevada and Clark County School District.
Kids to Kids: Collects gently used/new books to distribute to 21 adopted elementary schools within the Clark County School District. As well as, to other nonprofits and community events.
Breakfast with Books: The Breakfast with Books program is a family literacy event created to encourage reading and increase literacy. Once a month, students and family members from each adopted school attend an assembly for a book reading and discussion, which includes a free breakfast snack and book distribution. Last year, 127 Breakfast with Books programs were held with a total of 18,317 attendees.
Books and Buddies: A reading mentor program created to match students from the adopted elementary schools with volunteers from local corporations and the community, in order to improve reading skills.
