Senator Howard Cannon - Part 1 |
|
Listen
Just over a century ago, Howard Cannon was born in Utah. He would end up having an influence over Nevada's political landscape.
Born in St. George Utah to a family of Mormon English immigrants, he held a variety of odd jobs as a young man. One of which included a flying paper route. He eventually studied law.
He flew planes during WWII and was eventually shot down over Holland. When he returned from the war, he made his new home in Las Vegas where he practiced law. One of his cases involved helping Howard Hughes to procure a marriage license to wed in Tonopah.
He began to climb the political ranks, first as City Attorney which would eventually lead to him seeking national office. He is also known for his role in the Civil Rights fray.
