When Nevada Motorcyclists See Red
When Nevada Motorcyclists See Red

Listen
AIR DATE: October 2, 2013

As of October 1, when motorcyclists in Nevada encounter a red traffic signal, they are allowed to pass through if they wait a reasonable amount of time without getting a green light.

Same goes for bicyclists or people on mopeds.

Legislators changed state law to accommodate situations in which the traffic signal doesn't detect the presence of the motorcyclist because the vehicle is too small to trigger sensor plates buried in the roadway.

Nevada is the second state, after Illinois, to adopt the permissive drive-through on red. State law enforcement officers will ticket violators, with no grace period for drivers to adjust to the revised law.

GUESTS

Trooper Lloyd Hixson, Nevada Highway Patrol
