Imagine a day when, instead of writing a prescription for an antidepressant, a doctor will recommend spending some quality time with a golden retriever.  

Pets aren’t likely to replace modern pharmaceuticals anytime soon, but they can serve as a catalyst for healing both the body and the mind. In fact, scientists say animals can help with ailments ranging from soothing stress before an exam, to helping a stroke victim re-learn how to walk.
