Whether you consider wild horses common animals or a symbol of freedom of the west, those horses have been protected by federal law since 1971. The law says they have to be managed. But the federal government faces a significant challenge in doing so. There are some 39,000 wild horses roaming lands in 10 western states. KNPR's Ky Plaskon saddled up to see how the management program is faring in Southern Nevada.
