The FBI and the US Attorney had been working on the case for years. And now it has been hanging by a thread as the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decided whether or not the government had to grant Dr. Mark Kabins immunity so he could testify for other defendants. The appeals court has decided the case can go ahead without the spine surgeon being given immunity. A new investigation by Fortune Contributor Katherine Eban reveals the alleged insurance fraud may have run to hundreds of millions of dollars. We talk with Eban about her investigation.
