The Future of the UMC Medical Center

Listen
AIR DATE: January 25, 2010

Over the past few years, Clark County's beleaguered University Medical Center has been a font of bad news. The hospital has been awash in scandal and mismanagement, and loses tens of millions of dollars annually. Now, County Commissioner Rory Reid has proposed UMC be transformed into a teaching hospital, and he's appointed former university chancellor and businessman Jim Rogers to spearhead the effort. Can UMC become another Johns Hopkins? How do you attract top-notch medical and teaching talent to southern Nevada? We have Reid and Rogers, and Las Vegas Sun health reporter Marshall Allen in the studio to discuss a UMC makeover.
