Butcher Block Theater

AIR DATE: April 1, 2010

Butcher Block Productions has opened as a new theater company that wants to break out of the mold of traditional and comfortable theater. It's first play is a confrontational piece by Suzan-Lori Parks. She derides the usual idea of American history with a shooting gallery and the surreal idea of a gallery where an African-American in white face is shot for fun. And characters who dig for American History. We talk with the founder of Butcher Block about his unusual choice to open the company and what he plans to do in the future. We also meet two cast members from "The America Play."

Guests:
Shawn Hackler, Artistic Director
Natalia Bermudez, "Lucy"
Marcus Hinton, "Brazil"
