Animal Minds
Animal Minds

AIR DATE: April 29, 2010

In lieu of Weekend Select... When we gaze into the eyes of a wild animal, or even a beloved pet, can we ever really know what they might be thinking? Is it naive to assume they're experiencing something close to human emotions? Or, on the contrary, is it ridiculous to assume that they AREN'T feeling something like that? In this hour of Radiolab, we explore what science can say about what goes on in the minds of animals. Guests include: a humpback whale, Paul Thoreaux, camels, Jonah Lehrer, and a bloodthirsty leopard seal.

Hello - I have extensive studies in Sociology and Psychology, With Wolf hybrids, as my "pets." I have also worked with horses.

I firmly believe that humans fail to acknowledge (an) animal(s) intellect.

Why? It is more convenient to disallow another Beings' intelligence (no matter the species) than to invest necissary efforts into understanding through available modalities of communications. We are Lazy and tend to self-aggrandize.

Inasmuch as it is wondrous to envision the world "not flat" and revolving around a sun it is so equally to acknowledge different psyches, and methodologies of communication between "beings." Thank you.
