The solar company Amonix is opening a giant manufacturing plant in North Las Vegas. It claims it will create 278 green jobs. That seems perfect for a state with over 14% unemployment. But how sustainable are these jobs? Are they short-term or long-term? Will people have to train for a new "green" skill set? Will green jobs help pull Nevada out of its economic slump? And where is the stimulus money that was set aside to generate jobs? The experts weigh in on the fact and fiction of green jobs in Nevada.

The Nevada Clean Energy Summit 3.0 is September 7 at UNLV's Cox Pavilion. Speakers will include Senator Harry Reid, the CEO of PG&E, and other local energy and business leaders.

GUESTS
Jaime Cruz, "Green Economy" Dir, Workforce Connections
Lydia Ball, Exec Dir, Clean Energy Project
Jim Groth, Outreach Coordinator, Nevada State Office of Energy
Brian Robertson, CEO, Amonix

I have applied for jobs at Amonix and have yet to hear anything back. How can their be jobs if they aren't even responding back to applicants?

Sorry for the misspelling? How can there be jobs if the company isn't even responding to applicants?

I do environmental work on construction sites before and during construction, and I am more than happy to have more green job sites coming to Nevada. While each job may be short term, I move from one job to another, providing near full-time employment.

Questions. What are green jobs in the sense of qualifications or requirements for the positions such as a Degree. I'm currently finishing my degree in B.S Information Systems with Databases. What additional courses or classes should I consider for Green Jobs avenue? Any websites or suggestion to research this information. I would Like to be part of the 21st century of going green. Soon to be a Home owner and possible to install solar panels.
