The Diary of Anne Frank

Anne Frank was 13 when she received a diary for her birthday. The very next month, she went into hiding along with 24,000 other Jews in the Netherlands. The Diary of Anne Frank is one of the most famous accounts of the Holocaust period. The 1950's version during the "Golden Age of Cinema" highlighted Anne's optimism. But later adaptations tackled Anne's sexuality, her thoughts on Judaism, and darker issues. How has the play evolved over time? And what does that reflect about changing views of the Holocaust? The Utah Shakespearean Festival features the play this fall season. The play's director and the head of the local Jewish Community Center join us for an intimate discussion of a child's diary, 63 years after publication.
