The Defenders: Vegas Lawyers Become a CBS Sitcom

Listen
AIR DATE: September 24, 2010

"Pretend you're a professional." That's what one lawyer says to his co-counsel in CBS's new drama, "The Defenders." Jim Belushi and Jerry O'Connell joke and stomp around the TV courtroom as Las Vegas criminal defense lawyers. They're loosely based on real-life Las Vegas attorneys, Michael Cristalli and Marc Saggese. We talk to the real-life legal duo about their craziest cases, and what it's like to see their lives played out on TV.

GUESTS
Michael Cristalli, defense lawyer

BTW Lawyer jokes were on on this program - so here's my fave: *** On their way to get married, a Catholic couple was in a fatal car wreck. The couple are sitting outside the Pearly Gates waiting for St. Peter. While waiting, they wonder: Could they get married in Heaven? When St. Peter shows, they asked him. St. Peter said, "I don't know. This is the first time anyone has asked. Let me go find out" and he leaves. The couple sat and waited, and waited. Two months passed and the couple are still waiting. As they waited, they also wondered what was the eternal aspect of it all. What if it doesn't work out? Would they be we stuck together forever? After yet another month, St. Peter finally returns - bedraggled. "Yes" he says "You can get married in Heaven." "Great!" said the couple "But what if it doesn't work out? Can we get divorced in Heaven?" St. Peter, red-faced with anger, slams his clipboard down. "OH, COME ON!" St. Peter shouted "It took me three months to find a priest up here! Do you have any idea how long it'll take me to find a lawyer?!"

I saw episode 1 and it was so so. After hearing this interview, I think I'll stop watching.
