The Next Mayor of Las Vegas
The Next Mayor of Las Vegas

AIR DATE: December 2, 2010

The last two mayors of Las Vegas have brought a certain style, wit, flamboyance and charisma to the job.

Some say this year's candidates lack that swagger. And that might be a good thing.

Delen Goldberg of the Las Vegas Sun and Geoff Schumacher of the Review Journal join us to discuss the next mayor of Las Vegas.

I couldn't agree more. I'm not sure if totally straight laced is the way to go as this is Vegas but I certainly don't think a celebrity is the right choice. Las Vegas has hit harder times than many cities with this economic crisis and needs a mayor to step in and resolve the problems of deficit and unemployment. Our next mayor needs to have a clear vision of where Las Vegas is going and how to get there.

Everyone is missing the point. Weather or not the next mayor is a celebrity makes no difference at all. They need to be as passionate about the city as much as Oscar Goodman has been and they need to be as intelligent and focused about how to manage Las Vegas.

Completely agree with Carl. We need somebody who is equal parts: -Intelligence - meaning who can balance the budget & who has experience in doing so SUCCESSFULLY (let's not talk about Larry Brown & Steve Ross who have almost successfully bankrupt their own budgets) -Charisma - meaning someone who adds character to the position of mayor and who helps out with the city's PR. We need someone dynamic and upbeat who can rally our people and get us through this mess. I don't think it's impossible to have both and I believe someone will step up to the plate soon to run for mayor. Now, more than ever, do we need a great successor to Mayor Oscar Goodman
