Noelle Garcia: Reflecting on Dad's Life in Prison

AIR DATE: December 3, 2010
LISTEN TO M3U | DOWNLOAD MP3

When Noelle Garcia was a girl, her Dad went to prison for killing a man with a shotgun. She only remembers his care packages - letters and bags of Cheetos - and the one year he came back, briefly, before he died. It was that year she "really fell in love with him."

Now, Noelle looks back on her father's letters and gifts - she's turned them into an art exhibit: "What You Left Me: Creating Dad Through Artifact." The exhibit runs through January 7 at the Winchester Cultural Center Gallery. Noelle talks about discovering who her father really was, and how their one year together changed her art forever.

You can read a profile about Noelle Garcia and her art in the Sept./Oct. issue of our magazine, Desert Companion.
