Mayor Oscar Goodman just brokered a deal that will bring online shoe giant Zappos.com to the downtown area.

The deal will move Zappos and it's 1,000 employees into the current city hall building after the city moves to its new building in 2012.

The deal is part of Oscar Goodman's push to revitalize the downtown area. Amidst the fanfare however is the battered Las Vegas economy.

So can Zappos bring about change? And what are the other issues on the top of the mayor's list?

	While Zappos is more than just a call center, isn't it still mostly a call center? Sure Zappos is a fun company and it's nice that it sells stuff with panache but ultimately this is another sign of the upside down priorities of the US economy. Also, isn't it relatively zero sum - Henderson loses and Downtown gains? Did Zappos attract any new high tech businesses while it was in Green Valley? What we really need are some more innovative high tech green energy companies to come into S. Nevada so we can truly benefit by being knowledge workers vs just being a sunny resource to be exploited. 	How can Mayor Goodman make the statement a place like Omaha Nebraska had more Mob activity than Las Vegas ever had when in the next breath he talks about the Mob museum? Does any other city in this country have a Mob museum? Could Las Vegas having been built by the Mob have anything to do with it needing legitimacy? I think so. 	Thank you for consideration. It sounds like the main issue with building a new sports arena is public financing. Will the Symphony Park project avoid public financing for the most part? 	How is it that Goodman and the city of Las Vegas are able to continue to do all of these back door deals? Why was the Las Vegas City Hall site sold for only 25 million it is obviously worth much more when the new city hall site was purchased a few years back for over 110 million and that was for raw land. Why was the site not opened up for purchase on a competitive basis. Who are these individuals that are receiving these sweetheart deals?
