North Las Vegas has a new police chief. Joe Chronister has served as acting chief since June, but now it's official: he's in charge. The new police talks about his 300 officers, community issues in North Las Vegas, and what his big concerns are. Do you have questions for the new police chief?

	It is well known that red light cameras generate revenue but do not increase safety. Indeed, not only areyellow light duration shortened (decreasing safety - longer yellow lights are correlated with fewer accidents) so more tickets are issues, but red light cameras cause a huge increase in rear-end collisions as people slam on their brakes to avoid going through a yellow/red light. And then there are the police state issues. To hear the police chief enthusiastically lobby for something that is so obviously unconstitutional is very disturbing, to say the least. 	Quotas? Does NLVPD use statistics to evaluate police officer effectiveness? i.e. if officer B makes 30% fewer contacts, arrests, etc than officer A, is he looked at less favorably than officer A> Tom Mann –Feb 9, 2011 09:40:05 AM Respond to this comment

	The Police State Cometh! While I appreciate the Chief's cheery optimism, Freedoms is lost as we surrender them one step at at time. We now have facial recognition software, and it is only a matter of time before our movements are complety trackable. If we are wanting to raise money, why not have cameras in every home! 	The reality is, it will never happen in Nevada. But I wish they would allow red light cameras. The idea that it's okay to break the law as long as you don't get caught is ridiculous.
