CSN Takes a Hit from the Legislature
CSN Takes a Hit from the Legislature

AIR DATE: February 9, 2011

If Governor Brian Sandoval's budget plan is implemented as proposed the College of Southern Nevada could lose up to 29% of state funding. CSN President, Michael Richards says the cuts are extremely serious and could mean thousands more students will be turned away from Nevada's largest college. Michael Richards joins us to talk about the state of CSN and his plan for keeping the school a viable place to learn.

Michael Richards, Pres, CSN

Wake-up CSN. Enter the 21st century. Currently the number of students that can take a class are limited by the number of chairs in the classroom. If the claases were on the internet you would not have to turn away any students. If a student does need one on one attention, than they can attend the classroom. I, like many other students, can learn by seeing the lecture on the internet and using the book for reference. The future of education is technology. CSN is stuck in the old education model!!!

President Richards used the term "tax increase" on students and employees of the educational system, when the students are asked to pay more for their education and the employees of the educational system are asked to take cuts. i've never heard a politician describe it this way and it truly hits the nail on the head. it's time to refuse until the tax is made fair for all.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a community college available. Back in the 70's and 80's Moorpark College in California was free except for books. My family was on and off of welfare at the time but I was able go to Moorpark to get an AA because it was free. I have worked in IT, very successful I might add since. If it hadn't been for the opportunity I would have been stuck working on an assembly line somewhere. Please we need to make sure everyone has this opportunity also. Its a benefit to everyone. What can we do to help?
