Bargaining with the Devil
Bargaining with the Devil

AIR DATE: February 25, 2011

So when is it smart to talk with the enemy? Much more than you'd think, argues Robert Mnookin, in his new book Bargaining with the Devil: When to Negotiate, When to Fight. The Harvard Law School Professor has spent his career mediating, arbitrating and negotiating settlements as well as teaching other lawyers how to do it. In this new book, he looks at some of the toughest cases - negotiating with the Nazis, dealing with the KGB and trying to agree with your ex-spouse about money and custody of the children. He is speaking tomorrow at the Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution at the UNLV Boyd School of Law.

How do you do. I am an Australian Barrister and mediator. I have listened to your interview. I was very interested in your approach and readily identify with your approach as i do family law negotiations were "Demonisation" is a common trap by parties and practitioners alike. I would like to participate in the 2011 Fall PONs course. I will be relocating to the US with my husband. I look forward to any advice or assistance with enrolment in the Harvard program or indeed any other suggestions you may have. I am purchasing your book and am looking forward to a good read!
