I wonder if an income tax would help provide more stable state funding, especially if it were sweetened with a cap on sales taxes and a reform of property tax. If we're going to have a state, we need to pay for it. There's too much reliance on "other people's money" to pay for Nevada state government.

A state income tax doesn't qualify as other people's money because....? You believe that when they foolishly spend and need more money the "cap" won't be lifted on sales?? As for 'reform' on property tax, good luck. I am not a property owner but I do know that our tax rates are much much lower than my brother's in Wisconsin who lives in a very small poduck village, Juneau.

Fix the budget but no relying on future revenue and instead on revenue on hand from the previous years!!!

I think a grocery sales tax is a perfect way to raise revenue for education system It is the fair tax because everyone have to eat

Oh, and tax brothels. Last February during the special session, George Flynt, lobbyist for the brothel association, offered 2.5 million a year in taxes if the state would only accept it instead of ignoring the industry. He also said that allowing brothels in Clark and Washoe counties would result in at least 250 million a year to the state and take illegal prostitution that we see all over out yellow pages and on paper flyers off the street.

Cutting is not the answer. When you cut Nevadan's wages and salaries, you reduce the amount of money that is spent in the state-wide economy. What is needed for the economy to recover is spending. We need to end the tax break for mining of having them pay no more than 5% of their net profits in taxes. They have enjoyed this tax break for well over a century and its time the state collected. The foreign mining companies have made so much profit off the recession with the exploding price of gold and silver that the 5% limit on the amount of tax they pay is laughable. This would solve our budget problem.

Institute a $10 - $20 arrival/departure tax at McCarran airport with all funds to support education. Many other cities do this and it is just part of the cost of airline tickets --- it would not impact travel or discourage visitors, but it would generate significant funds to support higher education and our public schools.

Legalize gay marriage! What a boost for our economy, particularly since we already have wedding services in place. Plus it's the right thing to do.
