And how do libraries stay afloat in this latest saga of budget cuts? Head librarian Jeanne Goodrich gives us her outlook on the fate of the library system.

	I enjoy listening to State of Nevada almost every morning. I usually find the host to be well informed, and his questions well researched. I was troubled that today he seemed unprepared to speak with the head of LV libraries. It was clear that he had not been in a local library recently, and had scant knowledge about how libraries operate and are funded. If he actually spent some time in a library, he would know that it is so much more than a place to check out books. If this was the case, it would be true that libraries are in danger given the popularity of electronic media. A library is a hub of community activity as a meeting place, and they are a vital part of the fabric that holds neighborhoods together. Given the problems that this city has with public education, libraries also fill important educational needs, especially at the preschool level. These resources, most importantly, are available no matter your income level, and the library offers a unique place for children and families to interact with all kinds of people from their community.
