Segments like this one are the reason why I am reluctant to donate to KNPR. The bare truth is that we live in a desert with limited water resources. Yet KNPR continues to promote an environmentally tone-deaf segment about planting non-native plants and trees in the desert.

I just bought an older house that has many full grown trees - that's the good news - but they need help. The firs really need work - they have a huge number of pine cone and dead needles, as well as some branches that appear to be dead. The trees are about 40 feet tall. Would having it trimmed take care of most of this problem? Should I be using the fertilizing stakes or another type of fertilizer? Thanks.

I put in a 24" box Desert Museum Pala Verde tree a year ago. My neighbor has an old Mulberry tree that is 60-70 feet tall and blocks much of my tree from the sun between the hours of 10 am to 2 PM. My tree is growing more toward the east and west and leaving a hole to the south toward the direction of Mulberry tree. Is the Mulberry tree causing my tree to grow strangely toward the east and west only?
