Teachers in southern Nevada and across the country are feeling greater pressures from lawmakers and parents, less job security in light of tougher evaluation systems and stresses in the classroom from bigger classes and tougher students.  What are teachers feeling about the way their field is changing?  What do Clark County teachers feel about the new rules that change the way they will be evaluated and promoted (or fired)?  And, what do educators in southern Nevada think of their new superintendent?  Start the conversation before the show.

First of all, how many bad teachers can there be in a place where half the teachers quit within a few years of starting, because the pay and working conditions are not good? My fear is that the evaluations will become about saving money. You will see the most experienced teachers start to receive poor evaluations to reduce pay. You will see the most expensive teachers losing their jobs. It should be obvious that it's ludicrous to hold teachers "accountable" for things over which they have no control, such as students' IQs and coming into class at low/nonproficient levels. Therefore, there is obviously an ulterior motive. It appears to mostly be about turning public education into something at which private businesses can make large profits.

When are we going to alter the 'pass to highschool' requirements for Middle School?? My students knew they needed only 3 semesters of 10 in Lanuguage arts (English and Reading), 3 semesters of math, one semester of Science... They are often 'on vacation' once they finish sixth grade...
