The Dispute over First Friday

AIR DATE: August 4, 2011

Last month, the promoters of the arts festival First Friday said they would be taking a two-month hiatus.  That sparked an outcry from angry business owners in First Friday's downtown area.  They say the promoter, Whirlygig, doesn't control the festival and has no right to close it down.  But Whirlygig says it's struggling to find funding and isn't getting help from local businesses.  The festival will still open this Friday, but will it still be the same?  And what about the artists and business owners who relied on First Friday's sales?  Local business owners weigh in.

Wes Myles, owner, The Arts Factory

COMMENTS:
My group of friends go to First Friday most months. I'm making calls and tweeting to make sure we show up tomorrow, to support the event and show Las Vegas needs First Friday to continue.
