The race is on to get the 3,643 signatures needed to start the recall process on Nye County assessor Shirley Matson. No one has alleged that Matson has messed up on the property tax valuations. It all started when Matson used her work email to send demands to the sheriff’s office to check the immigration status of construction workers building the new county jail. Matson was reprimanded by county commissioners in March for conduct unbecoming a public official. Matson is unrepentant and is fighting the recall drive.
