In a world where politicians regularly throw barbs across the aisle and pundits grumble about broken promises, Richard Harwood looks for the silver lining.  "We need to release ourselves from our resignation that public life and politics has to be the way that it is today, and declare that it can be better," he says.

Since he founded The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation, he's pushed for neighborhood discussions on how we can improve our country, and what it will take to trust government.  Do you trust your politicians?  The media?  Who do you trust in your community?  If you don't trust the government, what would have to change to reinstill that sense of faith?

Richard Harwood and Las Vegas community leaders weigh in.  Tell us what you think.

GUESTS
Richard Harwood, Founder and Pres, The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation
Steve Sebelius, columnist, LVRJ
Pastor Robert Fowler, Sr Pastor, Victory Missionary Baptist Church
Gard Jameson, Chair, Interfaith Council; Pres, Children's Advocacy Alliance
Dina Neal, Nevada state assemblywoman, District No. 7

COMMENTS:
They would have to stop blatenly lying to the public. The Republicans are obvious. "There is no global warming" "Tax cuts for the rich help create jobs" "Anyone can get a job if they want to" etc. I have been a democrat all my life as well as my father who was a veteran of three wars and loved his country. He would be appalled at the lies even the Democrats are feeding us. The cut in withholding came from a 33 1/3 reduction in the Social Security tax last February. The general fund got 30% and we got 3 1/3%. No one will admit that it happen! Now, are they going to raise my withholding by that amount and not put the money back into SS? That would be a significant tax increase on the poor and middle class. How can I trust any politician or media person or anyone who works for them. It's everyone for themselves greed these days.

As a non voter ... It's not the politicians who are the problem it's "They The People" who rally the campaigns and vote these creatures into grand statures of rock starts. I have never understood the wimpy world of 'voters'. It is top brass military, CIA/FBI who run U.S. govmt. congress is front window dressing, wimpy drapes.

I distrust politicians for many reasons, but primarily, because with few exceptions they all lie. They call it 'spinning' and use other euphemistic terms to hide the fact that their words are contrived to conceal their agenda, motivations, etc. The other primary reason I distrust them is that they evidently they think I am stupid - or else they are. Take the President's remarks yesterday that I heard that his new 'jobs bill' has common sense ideas. Well, I have no friends, associates, acquaintances who think that you can tax/borrow and spend your way to prosperity - that is not common sense, in my way of thinking, that is nonsense.

When campaign contributions by corporations, special interest and lobbyists are banned, the American people MIGHT begin to trust their government again. Corruption is getting worse and our Congress and House speak for millionaires NOT the American people.

Intelligent and honest people do not go into politics. Individuals who pursue such a career do not strike me as particularly thoughtful or truly patriotic, setting aside their their ambitions or corporate sponsorship for the greater good of the country.

Please stop perpetuating the fallacy of calling the healthcare reform legislation "Obamacare" - Obama didn't do this alone, Congress alone decides legislation, etc. - using the term smacks of propaganda, not objective journalism. Thank you.

I wonder if Mr. Frutrell (SP?) was simillary disturbed when GWB said the Constitution was 'JUST A PIECE OF PAPER!'
