Nevada Redistricting to Get Public Input
Nevada Redistricting to Get Public Input

Listen
AIR DATE: September 30, 2011

Carson City District Judge James T. Russell has decided to let the public weigh in on state redistricting. On Oct. 10 the state's three redistricting special masters, whom Russell appointed earlier this year, will take public testimony in Las Vegas. The master's will also hold a public comment session in Carson City on Oct. 11. After those hearings the masters will come up with their first redistricting maps for the state's congressional and Nevada legislative seats.

The legislature failed to agree on a redistricting deal and the tasked was turned over to judge Russell. Las Vegas Sun Columnist Jon Ralston wrote in a recent column that there is no legal or logical authority for what Russell has done when he appointed the special masters and that the state constitution clearly states it's the legislature's mandatory duty to accomplish the task of reapportionment. Jon Ralston joins us to talk about the latest in the process of redistricting in Nevada.
