Everyone in education is doing more with less but the community colleges have been facing some unusual challenges. The regents are looking at a plan to outsource online teaching and, despite predictions that enrolment would balloon with the recession, the opposite appears to have happened. Are new high school graduation requirements pushing down numbers at CSN?
CSN is becoming a fine school. I have taken three classes there, so far, and have found each one to be as rigorous and thorough as those I had at several "top tier" schools, in years past.
I really would like to see the top administrators pitch-in with the teaching duties. I think that would keep senior administrators in touch with the students and with the main mission; teaching.Tri-Beta –Nov 15, 2011 19:38:10 PM
I heard President Richards' answer. I would like him to explain why only female and non-white professors were kept from teaching more online courses.John Denson –Nov 15, 2011 10:01:40 AM
I think that the CSN model is going the way of the dinosaur since education is being made available online from much more reputable institutions. Also a certificate or associates is nothing in the current world market and outside of the state of Nevada the CSN degree doesn't mean squad and why would I or anyone want to get in more debt with student loans if the current degrees offered are archaic and unusable in the current world market. I don't mean to sound rude but we need a new education model. To keep funding the current system and trying to fix it is but a waste of time, energy and money.Daniel Palacios –Nov 15, 2011 09:45:24 AM
Could President Richards explain why his administration prohibited some faculty who have demonstrated their abilities at teaching online from teaching more such courses to meet student demand, and whether the task force knew that?John Denson –Nov 15, 2011 08:12:05 AM
Many faculty have had problems using the new MyCSN system, could the implementation of the new system this semester have anything to do with the lower enrollment? Anne Roberts –Nov 15, 2011 07:56:26 AM
