From Classical to Rock with Violinist Rachel Barton Pine

AIR DATE: November 17, 2011
LISTEN TO M3U | DOWNLOAD MP3

Rachel Barton Pine is a classical virtuoso who knew she wanted to play violin since she was 5.  But her career nearly ground to a halt when she was 20, and lost her leg in a train accident.  But that didn’t stop her: she now travels worldwide playing classical music (while still rocking out to AC/DC and Black Sabbath in her spare time).  She's even started her own foundation to teach kids about classical music.

Rachel Barton Pine joins us to talk about rebuilding her career after the accident, getting kids interested in classical music, and how she straddles the two worlds of Brahms and Metallica.

She performs with the Las Vegas Philharmonic on Saturday, Nov. 19 at UNLV's Ham Hall.  She will also conduct a master class on Nov. 17 at Clark High School.
