When it's complete in 2012, the Galena Creek Bridge between Carson City and Reno will be the largest bridge of its type in the United States. The 1,722-ft-long and 295-ft-tall bridge was built to divert traffic off of a dangerous stretch of freeway in Northern Nevada. The construction of the bridge hasn't been smooth though. Controversy erupted after the project's original contractor had problems with the planned erection method, that led the Nevada Department of Transportation to terminate the contract and seek a new contractor. Now, the bridge is nearing completion despite being called Nevada's "bridge to nowhere" by critics in the community. We discuss the brief history of the Galena Creek Bridge.

    The title "The Bridge To Nowhere" is really a falsehood. And the host did seem a bit snarky. But I have to wonder why no one has bitched about the Hover Bypass Bridge which was kinda build at the behest of Homeland Security and that agency's seemly endless budget.

    I grow weary of this show host's confrontational / demanding tone. While (thankfully) not up to reknown shock jock levels, I look to K/NPR for calm, considered presentation.

    Widening this section of old US395 would be like widening Las Vegas Blvd rather than building I15.

    Did the show host said this bridge would serve "only 40,000 people a day" - that strikes me as a reasonably decent amount of traffic. Of course this is relative - ie light for NYC. This segment is sounding like "sensationalistic / pile on" journalism to me.
