As with many things in Washington: the big deal was on and then it was off. And now the deal crafted by Sen. Harry Reid that would extend the payroll tax through the New Year is back on the political agenda. But will anything come of it?

Will it be a game of chicken through New Year's Eve? Or will we all end up paying more in payroll taxes next year?
