It's been quite the year for Las Vegas.

The legislature almost didn't finish the budget but snatched a little tax increase from a court decision. Senator Ensign finally threw in the towel on keeping his Senate seat after an adultery scandal. An old name is still running city hall, but it's just not the same old Goodman. The Cosmopolitan opened to much fanfare and there were dueling pianos everywhere on the Strip. The school district has a new boss who's shaking things up, and trying to improve education in Southern Nevada.

What's on the horizon for 2012? That's what we'll be asking our guests.

    COMMENTS:
Why is the media ignoring the main story with this issue? The House passed a bill to solve the problem, then stuck around to work out a bi-cameral compromise. The Senate rejected it, passed their own bill, then went home - no discussion, no compromise. I don't see how the House & Boehner are the bad guys on this. It looks like the Senate and Reid are refusing to cooperate. No one is reporting it this way. Do I have the facts wrong?

Great discussion, excellent comments. One thing to remember about casinos is that it isn't about PROFITS, it's always about CASH FLOW. Lots of casinos like the Cosmopolitan have run in the red for years, but they have generated a strong cash flow and that's why they continue. Las Vegas is alive, well, and continues to be one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

Regarding 2 month extension vs. 1 year extension, from what I've heard on NPR & read on MoveOn, the point is that the Keystone Tarsands project needs some study first, & the dems have to use that 2 months as leverage, because the repubs want to move it along,in spite of the dangers that it presents re the water for the state of Nebraska. I did not hear that mentioned in your discussion with Heck.

(Dave, you always put on a great program. Thanks. Liz Bird)
