Asian New Year 2012: Year of the Black Dragon

Listen
AIR DATE: January 23, 2012

If you want to get lucky, this might be your year!  Asian New Year starts Jan. 23 with the year of the black dragon, considered one of the luckiest astrological signs.  In Chinese tradition, it's lucky to be married, born, or start a business this year.  Why is the Black Dragon so auspicious?  What foods are lucky to eat, and what traditions will people follow?  And why does the Strip deck itself out in red and gold everytime the holiday rolls around?  Celebrate with us as we ring in the Asian New Year!  Share your favorite memories of past New Years below.

GUESTS
Sue Fawn Chung, Prof of Asian History, UNLV
Janie Low, Chair, Chinese New Year event at Fremont Street Experience
Peter Lung, owner, World of Feng Shui

Chinatown's celebration is Jan. 24.  The Fremont Street Experience event is Jan. 24-28.
