Grant Korgan: Paralyzed and Hiking to the South Pole

Listen
AIR DATE: January 31, 2012

Grant Korgan was a recent newlywed with a nanotech company and a love for extreme sports.  Then on March 2010, a snowmobile accident smashed his vertebrae.  The prognosis was that he'd likely never walk again.  But Grant Korgan and his wife refused to believe it: they sold their belongings and embarked on a long journey toward recovery.  Grant Korgan talks about the power of hope, and how it's possible for a paraplegic to ski to the South Pole.

COMMENTS:
What an amazing story! It goes without saying that the achievement is inspirational. But what impressed me equally was the combination of joy, humility and gratitude this man displays. I read the book by Aaron Ralston that was behind the movie "127 Hours." The movie left out Mr Ralston's self-professed proud arrogance both before and after being trapped--even toward his rescuers. In Mr. Korgan's account today, I heard him express gratitude towards at least ten different people--and towards "Love." I root for Mr. Korgan. I am sure he will go on to do more great things.
