The Smith Center for The Performing Arts opens its doors this weekend with a black tie gala to celebrate the debut of one of downtown Las Vegas' biggest cultural and redevelopment project. The center is the cornerstone of Symphony Park which developers say will eventually include residences, a casino hotel and other projects.

 

But, while there are big plans for development, the Las Vegas Sun reports most of those developments are still only on paper and it could take years to build the area to its full potential. We talk with the President of the Smith Center about this week's opening and the future of Symphony Park.
