When the Sahara closed its doors last May after more than 50 years in business, owners promised they would reopen the hotel-casino's doors sometime in the near future. Now, the Review Journal reports SBE Entertainment, the company that owns the shuttered property, has secured $300 million in financing to remodel and reopen the hotel-casino in 2014.

After owners gut, demolish and remodel various parts of the property it will be reborn as "SLS Las Vegas," removing the iconic Moroccan motif from Las Vegas boulevard. The Review Journal also reports owners of the hotel want to be a catalyst for future development on the blighted north end of Las Vegas Boulevard at Sahara Avenue where three of the four corners are void of business.

We talk with Review Journal reporter Howard Stutz about the future rebirth of the Sahara.
