Why the Fast and Furious Failed to Stop Gun Smuggling

Fast and Furious was a 15-month ATF program with the intent of catching bigger fish within the Mexican cartels. More than two thousand guns were allowed across the border in order to track them. The plan failed. And now U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder could be held in contempt by a U.S. House Oversight Committee for not making relevent documents available.  Who is to blame? Why would a government agency allow weapons to go freely across the border like that?

COMMENTS:
The gangs will get weapons no matter what, so it seems that Fast and Furious just made it easier for them. Really, who cares what serial numbers and what guns are used in such broad-based crimes. I just don't see the point of ineffectively dealing with this *symptom* (guns), when they in fact should be focusing on the *problem* (the drug war).

Even a true moron would rightly reckon that this ridiculous "plan" would fail big time. Indeed, the folks who planned and carried out this fiasco should be in jail, or at the very least, fired.
