How Boxing Saved My Life: Mentoring Youth Through Sports
How Boxing Saved My Life: Mentoring Youth Through Sports

Listen
AIR DATE: August 15, 2012

Steven Call knows about tough love.  He used to be a boot camp drill instructor for juvenile felons.  Now, he runs a boxing club.  And his athletes deal with everything: drug addiction, prison time, homelessness.  But boxing is "just a tool" to help them, he says.  The real work comes outside the gym, in the hours he spends getting them housing, or listening to their problems.  So how did sports change your life?  We talk with coaches around Las Vegas who are using athletics to help youth.

GUESTS

Steven Call, Relentless Youth Boxing Club
Hunkie Cooper, football coach, Canyon Springs High School
Marcus Teal, football/softball/basketball coach, Spring Valley High School
