Gov. Sandoval To Expand Medicaid
Gov. Sandoval To Expand Medicaid

AIR DATE: December 17, 2012

Gov. Sandoval this week said he will expand Medicaid in Nevada under the federal Affordable Care Act. The expansion will allow an additional 78,000 low-income Nevadans to get coverage under Medicaid. Under the law the federal government will cover 100 percent of the cost for medical care in the first three years and Nevada will eventually share some of those costs. We'll talk with Las Vegas Sun's senior politics editor, Anjeanette Damon about Gov. Sandoval's decision and what it means for Nevada residents.

As if Nevada's budget shortfalls weren't bad enough already, now the politicians in Carson add yet more future liabilities. Yes, the Feds will pay for this huge expenditure (with our tax money) for a bit, but in the end Nevadan's will directly pay for it. This is truly a foolish expenditure when what we should be doing is accepting the truth that we simply cannot afford all that we want, and then setting realistic spending priorities.
