Is This The Economic Recovery?

Taxable sales are up. So are home values. Foreclosures are down and tourists are coming back. But employers have only restored a fraction of the 170,000 jobs lost in Nevada during the recession. And many of those who lost jobs in 2008 and 2009 are still struggling. Does all of that add up to recovery?

We'll talk to two economists and two people who lost their jobs in 2008 to talk about where we are today.

GUESTS

John Restrepo, Principal, RCG Economics

Stephen Brown, Director, UNLV Center for Business and Economic Research

Phillip Dahlheimer, Consultant, lost his job in 2008

Troy Lovick, former broker, struggling since 2008

This state mines three things. It mines gold, silver and above all it mines stupid. The legislature, a wholy owned subsidary of gaming/mining inc, has no interested in a work force that is not stupid. Thus our education system will remain at the bottom 10% of the country. I've been mostly out of work since May 2009. Did find mostly out-of-town work from May 2010 to Oct 2011, but nothing since then. Have had a couple of interviews since then, some here, some not here. But no offers. For me, this has not been a "recovery".
