Concealed Weapon And Use Of Lethal Force Bills Debated In Carson City
Concealed Weapon And Use Of Lethal Force Bills Debated In Carson City

AIR DATE: February 26, 2013

There's a second attempt in the legislature to allow Nevada students to carry concealed weapons on college campuses. The bill, AB 143, was introduced by Republican Las Vegas Assemblywoman Michele Fiore last week. Fiore is also co-sponsoring a revision to the Use of Force laws already on the books.

John Hambrick, Republican Assemblyman, Clark County

The only thing UNLV police know about is how to hang at the 7-Eleven and drink big gulps, and their pathetic response time of sometimes *hours* shows it. Since the Chief obviously chooses to hire only lazy incompetents and bureaucrats, he should be whole-heartedly endorsing people protecting themselves by carrying concealed on campus, not vilifying them.

Re: the UNLV Chief's rationale - of basically shooting anyone with a gun on sight - maybe you and your officers need to get some better training. "Real" cops have to train for mixed shooter scenarios.

So a UNLV person over 21 can have a CCW and carry across the street at a Maryland Pkwy bar but they can't on campus - what's so magic about being on campus? The "bad guys" won't/haven't respected it.
