It's been one year since the Smith Center opened in downtown Las Vegas. It gave the city something new to brag about. But, not everyone has jumped on board the "We Love The Smith Center" train. What do you think about what the Smith Center has brought to Las Vegas?

    COMMENTS:
The Smith Center is wonderful and has added to the quality of life in Southern Nevada. Mr. McGee sounds like a man with a chip on his shoulder. I have attended seven events so far this year in both the main hall and cabaret theater. My hope for the next years is better promotion of jazz events and more plays and less musicals. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

Sure, it seems to be a nice facility, *but* I'd really like to know how much of my tax money is involved. Did Smith get free land, subsidized loans, surrounding infrastructure, or even direct investments? Do they get any operating, marketing, etc. funds from tax money? If it really is a private entity making money, it should be privatized and not passed off as a "public good". On the other hand, if it is subsidized by tax money in any way, we have a right to know what this fancy boondoggle is costing us.
