Nevada Ships Psychiatric Patients Out Of State
Nevada Ships Psychiatric Patients Out Of State

AIR DATE: April 22, 2013

It all began when a mentally-ill man turned up in Sacramento. Initially, state officials denied that there were problems with mental health facilities. Now an investigation by the Sacramento Bee shows that the practice is quite common. But how common is it?

This is a myopic story. No one covers the vast amount of mentally ill, homeless and released prisoners with one way tickets to Las Vegas for the past 30 years. Also, no one is PLACED on a bus, they are offered tickets to a better place. Also, any one offered the option to leave Las Vegas must be more stable than forced hospitalization - stable enough to make that good choice. This is National issue - many states, especially NV where people are transient - should not be expected to care for nation's mentally ill. Patient dumping is a made-up term.
