Players Era Festival brings the brightest college basketball prospects to town, Red Rock Canyon unveils a new sign location, and two turkeys see another day in a longstanding presidential tradition.

The Daily Rundown - November 25th, 2025

🏀 Top college basketball players from around the country are in Las Vegas this week for the Players Era Festival. Nate Ament of Tennessee showed why he’ll likely be the highest-drafted player among those competing this season. In his team’s victory over Rutgers, he scored an efficient 20 points on 50% shooting from the field and 66% from beyond the arc. The home team, UNLV, suffered a loss to Maryland.

The tournament began yesterday, and there are still more games to be played. In fact, if you’re hoping it’ll offer a break from Thanksgiving Day festivities, you’re in luck. The women’s Players Era schedule places the championship game on Thursday at 5 p.m. Pacific time. The women’s field features four powerhouse teams: No. 2 South Carolina, No. 3 UCLA, No. 4 Texas, and Duke. You can catch the semifinal games while doing prep the day before — and then build an appetite for your Thanksgiving pie of choice with the finals.

🚦 Thanksgiving week brings more than turkey to Las Vegas … it brings traffic. While there’s no specific local projection, John Treanor, the AAA Nevada spokesman, said in a statement that “Thanksgiving is the single busiest travel holiday of the year,” the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. Nationally, about 73 million people will hit the road. The Regional Transportation Commission anticipates the usual heavy Thanksgiving weekend traffic, including the familiar bottleneck along Interstate 15 at the Nevada–California border.

Expect heavy traffic heading south between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, and between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday. Otherwise, traffic conditions in Southern Nevada should be about normal tomorrow through Friday, according to the RTC. Drivers will find gas prices slightly lower than last week, with a drop of 9 cents to $3.89 for a gallon of regular unleaded, AAA says.

🚴 The Red Rock Canyon Marker North sign unveiled its new home this morning at 8:00am. It now sits in a parking lot west of its previous unpaved location, moved to improve safety for visitors who stop to take photos. The new paved area is part of Phase 1 of the Red Rock Legacy Trail Project. The full trail — spanning nearly 19 miles — will be built in five phases and is designed to provide a safe, accessible way for bicyclists and pedestrians to experience Red Rock.

It will connect the entire conservation a rea from the edge of Summerlin in the north to Blue Diamond Road in the south. Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones and representatives from partner agencies participated in the unveiling. Back in July, KNPR looked to the progress being made on the Red Rock Legacy Trail.

🦃 They paid their dues, time after time. They did their sentence, but committed no crime. A president, not a Queen, will again inexplicably "pardon" two turkeys, with no criminal record, in one of the strangest and most misunderstood of American traditions. Learn a little bit more about the fate of our feathered friends, and the longstanding practice.
