Following newly released guidance from the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy, CVS and Walgreens are now distributing the updated COVID booster.
The board says the vaccine’s earlier approval by the Food and Drug Administration is enough for pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens to begin administering the updated version to the public.
That overrules previous guidance requiring vaccines administered by Nevada pharmacists to gain approval from the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
That panel was supposed to meet this summer, but was delayed until mid-September after Health and Human Services Secretary RFK Jr. fired all 17 members of the committee.
This state-level guidance change also comes as CDC data shows COVID-positive tests and ER visits are again peaking throughout the US after a spring and summer slump.
