McCarran Runway Closes For Upgrade
A $67 million construction project at McCarran International Airport to swap out asphalt for more durable concrete will close the airport's longest runway until next May. But airport spokeswoman Christine Crews said Wednesday there shouldn’t be flight delays or disruptions because of the work, with generally fewer flights in the winter. She says it is the last of the airport's four runways to be converted to concrete. The airport expects to reopen the 14,505-foot-long runway temporarily starting May 2 and close it again from October 28 through May 1, 2016 to finish construction.
