CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada officials including Gov. Brian Sandoval have approved more money to fend off a lawsuit that San Francisco filed over alleged psychiatric patient dumping.
The Nevada Board of Examiners voted Tuesday to approve $200,000 more to continue the legal battle. The state has already authorized more than $2.1 million for a law firm contract that's scheduled to last through the end of the year.
The lawsuit came in the wake of an embarrassing patient busing scandal in 2013 that led to the loss of outside accreditation for Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital in Las Vegas.
San Francisco is seeking $500,000 in reimbursement costs for treating 29 patients who were given vouchers for one-way bus tickets to California. It also wants an order barring Nevada from sending over any more patients.
