New Clark GOP Chair: Goal Is Running Competent Organization

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The newly elected chairman of the Clark County Republican Party says his priority will be running a competent and efficient organization focused on ushering Republicans into office.

Ed Williams prevailed over Rob Tyree and Kathryn Njus on Wednesday to win a two-year term. The 43-year-old information technology professional previously served as the party's vice chair.

He's also led the Nevada chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans and is the county party's first openly gay chairman.

The party's reputation as fractured was underscored at the 2012 Republican National Convention, when Nevada delegates supporting Ron Paul broke the rules and voted for Paul instead of Mitt Romney.

Williams said he views the county party not as a divided organization, but as one that includes supporters of "every flavor of presidential candidate."
