North Vegas Teacher To Take Plea Deal In Child Lewdness Case

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — A former North Las Vegas elementary school music teacher is taking a plea deal to avoid a preliminary hearing and trial on felony charges that he fondled at least eight children.

Jeremiah Mazo's lawyer, William Terry, told a North Las Vegas judge on Thursday that his client will plead an equivalent of no contest to three counts of attempted lewdness with a minor under 14.

Twenty-nine other charges would be dismissed.

The 54-year-old Mazo will get at least five years in prison at sentencing. He could get up to 60 years.

Justice of the Peace Natalie Tyrrell scheduled Mazo to enter his plea July 27 in Clark County District Court.

Mazo remains jailed on $150,000 bail. He was suspended from Hayden Elementary School following his arrest April 24.
