2 Wildfires Stopped In Elko County In Northeastern Nevada

ELKO, Nev. (AP) — An official says firefighters in northeastern Nevada stopped a wildfire that charred nearly 3.5 square miles of grassland and sage in less than a day.

U.S. Bureau of Land Management training specialist Mike Ellsworth said Thursday that no injuries were reported and no structures were damaged before the Boulder fire was contained in the remote Welches Creek area.

Ellsworth says federal, state and local hand crews had help from helicopters and aerial tankers battling the 2,224-acre fire northeast of the western Elko County town of Dunphy.
