Amodei Says He'll Run For Governor In 2018 If Heller Doesn't

CARSON CITY (AP) — Republican Nevada Rep. Mark Amodei says he'd run for governor in 2018 if Sen. Dean Heller didn't.

Amodei told the Reno Gazette-Journal in an article published Tuesday that he will run for Congress again in 2016. He represents the state's Republican-dominated 2nd Congressional District in northern Nevada.

Gov. Brian Sandoval's second four-year term will end after the 2018 election, and term limits bar him from running again.

Amodei said he'd run against anyone for the seat but Heller, including Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison.

Amodei has also said he'd be interested in running for attorney general, but said he wouldn't do that if Attorney General Adam Laxalt sought re-election.

The congressman said being governor would be an opportunity to come home to Carson City and finish his public service career.
